In 2023, Archbishop Miguel was named Apostolic Nuncio (the Vatican’s diplomatic representative) to Great Britain by Pope Francis.

He entered the Holy See’s diplomatic service in 1987 and went on to serve on many diplomatic missions, including to Rwanda, Uganda, Morocco, Nicaragua, Egypt, Slovenia and Ireland.

He has previously served as Apostolic Nuncio to Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan, then to Romania, the Republic of Moldova and the Court of St. James’s.
